True dat, RtB. There is a lot of resentment toward Simon and since he has been so instrumental in these shows, I think that is where a lot of the negative comments stem from. Some also from cultural snobs who, IMO, don't deserve the time of day.

I don't think so, she hasn't released a CD in quite a while. Hers keeps getting postponed.

    I agree completely.

I really don't know. I was so PO'd at the Grammy's for snubbing Susan again, I didn't really care who they nominated. Leona is a really good singer, but I don't think she has the name recognition over here nearly like Susan. I could be wrong. (Bound to happen sometime)

Sadly there are too many people whose sense of goodness is too damaged to be able to imagine what life might be like in Susan's shoes.

I THINK that LL's first CD did pretty good here. Her last one sold over a million, but mostly in Europe.

Yes, but he says "Britain's Got Talent" should be thanking their lucky stars for Susan. Not the talent show industry. He's focusing on one show, or one franchise - the Got Talent franchise.

Il Divo was from an X Factor type contest, Leona is XFactor, Carrie and Kelly are American Idol.

Terry Fator, the first winner of AGT, and Paul Potts, one of the first winners of BGT, have done well, but certainly aren't household names that would represent the Got Talent franchise. Jackie E may be moreso, but I think her "career" is fading, or perhaps just settling at a certain level until she's grown (at least I haven't heard anything about her).

Thanks, Maya - I see now that within that limited arena, Matt is probably correct, but for me limiting the arena to one talent show franchise makes his point less interesting, i.e., that the musical is significant as a redeemer of the reputation of just one show versus the whole talent show genre.

That was a nice, breezy, positive angle to present for Susan and The Musical. I wonder what SC and PM thought of the show, if they have seen it on line......

    My take on CarterMatt article.

"If there has been one problem with “BGT” over the years, it’s been the inability of stars other than Susan (and, to a lesser extent in America, Paul Potts) to really pay it forward and keep themselves in the public eye." I agree on this point. Take Susan out of the equation for a moment. One thing, I have noticed with the Got Talent shows all over the world is this.

The winner is offered a contract. The winner makes a CD, does tours and appearances. Within two years if they have not sustained the $ base through fans buying CDs, doing whirlwind concert performances, appear as a special guest in a media environment or, cracked the US market they seem to disappear under the radar. It could also be because there is another winner nipping at their heels or, for whatever reason, the pay it forward fell backward.

"Therefore, Simon Cowell and company has to be excited over the success of the new “I Dreamed a Dream” musical in Newcastle." What is CarterMatt saying here? The next sentences for me seems disjointed. I do not see why Cowell and company (BTW, which company) has to be excited about the musical, except to empathise dreams do come true. Maybe SyCo was a silent backer. Then, I would understand the excitement.

BGT had a minor role in Susan's dream coming true. Two significant factors made the dream come through.
    (1) Susan kept pushing the envelop
    (2) The internet, ie, youtube went viral. It was us, the people sitting at home who saw a clip on the news that caused youtube to go viral and the massive social media networking.

The viral exposure caused Simon et, al to drop their jaws. I do not believe CarterMatt gets points one and two above.

We all know there will never ever be another Susan Boyle, not in our lifetime anyway. From a rating viewpoint, BGT (and all the other Got Talents) fell on its feet when Susan auditioned. That caused a smile on Simon's face. And, yes anyone who sings on a Got Talent who has a great voice will be compared to Susan. Pity really as that is like comparing black and white. Both distinctly different. Hey, but that's reality TV for ya'
