  • Forum Support For Susan Boyle

Is this Fan Site succeeding in its stated mission which is to 'support' Susan Boyle? You be the judge:

This fan site was created on April 12, 2009 and written about in Huffington Post just 4 days later because it already had 12,000 members.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steve-..._b_188719.html

For Susan's first American TV appearance, fans lined up and mostly sat together to cheer her on. She knew American forum members were there, she looked right at them and giggled at the end. I'm sure that support before she'd even released an album, meant a great deal to her.

First New York Plaza performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cee42UfxpXQ
Susan has related in her book how terrified she was. It finally was Andy telling her how many of her fans were out there waiting, and did she want to disappoint them, that got her to get ready and perform. She was also presented with her first quilt - made by forum fans. When Susan returned to Blackburn, she was wearing a red scarf - gift from a forum fan - and a Tweek button - clearly again, fan support meant a great deal to her.

In April 2010, 16 fans from around the world flew to Japan to see Susan, and the story of their support, and the birthday party they shared made international news, a great positive for Susan.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_vb1cKrHjs

The first time that Susan ever came to a M and G simply to meet fans, not connected with any performance was July 2010 in the Premier Inn in in Livingston, Scotland and there were just eleven of us there. It was memorable because Susan came dressed in red and as she entered she said " I'm in my red!", in support of the Forum's adopted colour. She'd gone to the trouble of wearing a red poncho over her red dress despite the summer weather!
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post351483

The day after Susan's Papal Mass performance she chose to attend a fan meet - and stayed much longer than she'd planned, clearly enjoying herself. Again, the fan support obviously gave her a lift, and it wouldn't exist without this forum to organize such get-togethers.

Lisa Pulley's video count was written up in Irish Central Sept 2010 - helping make clear how much Susan's videos are viewed - at that time the count had already surpassed one half billion.
    http://www.irishcentral.com/opinion/...238043661.html

LucyB's first book in her continuing series came out about the same time, getting 'the facts' out there for anyone who cared to read the book.

cicichi and 1susanfan went to Chicago to see Susan on Oprah and a poster about their trip was featured on the Official Site.
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post353800

At Susan's first book signing, and at all future album signings, Susan has been well supported in person by forum fans.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsFKCplowVw

In Nov 2010 fans greeted Susan in New York and the airport welcome made the news there. 140 forum fans and friends attended the Plaza concert as well.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYE0rzjaSS4

In March 2011 Susan performed brilliantly at the Scottish Music Awards, again visibly supported in person by 27 forum fans - and she clearly appreciated it. Again she surprised them by unexpectedly joining them at a fan meet the following day.
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post491034

In August 2011, at very short notice, a group of about 20 fans were organized in New York to meet with Susan for filming to be included in a documentary about her. The documentary was hugely successful, selling to 88 countries, and forum fans certainly played a role.
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post363967

In October 2011 fans welcomed Susan back to LA at the airport in a big way, resulting in 'Subomania returns' press. (Susan was performing on Dancing With the Stars - a group of very dedicated forum fans dressed up in wild costumes in order to get tickets to the show, which they then shared with other fans.)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...a-hits-LA.html

In early November, Australian forum fans had the chance to meet Susan in person and demonstrate how widespread her support is.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR-N_PioYVY

For the opening of the Stage Musical, forum fans around the world organized and went to Newcastle. Their presence generated worldwide press about how Susan's fans were travelling from everywhere to see the show including 'City Gripped By Subomania!' Many reviews mentioned 'fans travelling from around the world. Susan again chose to join in a number of Fan Meets during the show's run, including with over 60 fans after the musical's last show.

    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post398908

In 2013 forum fans became part of a press story of fans from around the world buying tickets for Susan's first tour. And again, some reviews referred to 'fans from around the world' most of course organized here.
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post845962

The cover of Susan's fifth album was affected by fan support here for a suggested cover photo.

In Oct 2013 fans shared a dinner with Susan to show their support for her at the Prince and Princess of Wales Fundraiser.
    http://forum.susan-boyle.com/threads...l=1#post478437

In Nov 2013, fans gave Susan a great Houston welcome at the airport which again got press coverage.
    http://www.chron.com/news/houston-te...to-5473559.php

While it is impossible to know how much forum fans affected attendance at Susan's movie, many certainly worked very hard to get the word out, and to attempt to get theatres to show the film.

In December, 2013 the second Susan Boyle documentary came out, again featuring forum fans in a 'supporting' role.

This doesn't take into account those who Tweet, our SBFII Facebook site (where some who don't post here, do comment there) our Youtube Channel soon to reach 8 million views... It doesn't cover the Charity auction purchases and donations, the blogs, like Graysea's and Poulson's. Tweek's buttons which are now scattered in their thousands around the world. The online voting by forum fans, with the most recent result, Susan's Fan Choice Award in Scotland.... there are many ways we support Susan - and together, we can continue to in ways that impact her positively. After all, how many times has she mentioned how she 'looks forward to seeing those red scarves'?

Wow, Bill! Fantastic job, and you are so right. This forum obviously has a large, and good, effect on Susan's performances. Maybe some of the other fanclubs will list some of their doings, as it would be interesting to read of some more "Susasupport". Thanks for all these reminders, Bill, of what has happened in this club.

What a great little rundown of so many SBFII Susahighlights! Thank you, CB!

It has always thrilled me to see how many talented folks are members here, and can give so much of themselves to show their incredible Susasupport. The only thing I am able to do is read here and find out what all is going on. Most likely, I will never be able to attend any Susaconcert or M&G BUT I certainly enjoy knowing and reading about them, and learning of others' trips to them, etc. And of course I will ALWAYS support Susan, no matter what! Other sites have equally involved and wonderful members I am certain; I simply don't have time for more than one fan site, and if there can only be one for me, then SBFII is 'it' for me.

You said it for me too, Allikat! There just aren't enough hours in the day for this fansite, so there is no way I would have time to participate or even read in other sites as well. And we know that everything we want to know, see and hear are available in this one.

Bill, thank you so much for this great overview of our forum's involvement in supporting Susan. It is heart-warming to read down through this long list and to know that we have played a part in encouraging her to become the world-famous Superstar that she is today.

BTW I hadn't realised that this forum began on 12th April 2009. So on the day following the fifth anniversary of the TV broadcast of Susan's audition, the forum will be celebrating its fifth birthday. So I vote for a two-day-long party ... Agreed?!

and that is true, sometimes we underestimate how meaningful our support means to Susan. A few friends here who've visited Susan in her home note that she keeps every present that has been sent to her from fans, those gifts have never been thrown away because each one is a reminder to her she is now being recognized for what she has to offer

Personally, I can't drink that much.

Thank you so much for posting that record, CanadianBill! It provides her with the unconditional love, the genuine recognition... and the fun she needs to go on believing in herself and lavish her own magic, that no one else could emulate or contrive.
