  • July 16-22: Susa-News Summary

We, as her adoring fans, are privileged to constantly watch and enjoy the public activities of Global Superstar, Susan Boyle. I am maintaining a daily log of the highlights of Susa-news and not editorializing toooo much. Accuracy is very important – PLEASE PM any additions and/or corrections to me. I’ve tried to credit the right Fan where possible. Please forgive my mistakes and send me a correction.

July 16-22: Week after Glamis Prom performance

July 16, Sunday: Day after performance at Glamis Prom

    1. More information about Susan’s performance was been posted on the Forum during the week; I’ve tried to consolidated most of it here.

    2. Further posts from various Susa-fans, some of whom attended:
    • Posted by Soimpressed: “All the performers were super, the rain held off except for a few brief minutes, the setting was lovely and the orchestra exceptional. We heard some of the sound check. It was interesting seeing the performers in ripped jeans then later they came out looking so glamorous.
“I was shocked again by the beauty of Susan’s voice, there is so much warmth in it! .She has something even the slickest, most practised singers around don’t have.
“I hope this is Susan getting back into the swing of performing. I hope she sings more! One lady called out to Susan at the end. "More. Please sing for hours!" She was very well appreciated by the audience, lots of cheers and clapping. Susan looked amazing in her beautiful cerise dress. All the performers were very very good but Susan undoubtedly the star!
    • A later posting by Soimpressed: “Hi everyone. Just to reiterate, mum had a fantastic time, so did I. Thanks again to the other forum fans who were so kind to mum when the temperature dropped. Diane even got us taken into the castle which was being used as the backstage area. Mum was wrapped up even more and given a cup of tea! At that point we met Jai Mcdowell who was lovely. The taxi came right up to the door then we went back to the hotel. It was a great show with a marvellous variety of acts and the people running it were very friendly. A great bonus when Susan strolled across the lawn before the show-we had got in early- she approached us and dished out hugs to mum and me. It was great fun seeing everyone again, thanks for your company and help! It’s been tough for Mum as Dad died a year ago, but she was lifted up by the trip, the company and entertainment.
“She suffered no ill effects and is asking now, when is the next one? As sherry said in her post, coming back to earth with a thud!

    3. The Glamis gang of Susa-fans minus Soimpressed and her mom! Thanks to Kathleen –

    5. An interesting conversation between Kathleen & Trennie:
    • Kathleen 0787: “Susan was wonderful last night! She looked beautiful and sang 4 songs on her own then led the finale “Thank You For The Music”. It was a great time. About 10 of us fans from everywhere were there. It rained toward the end, there were about 2 thousand people there on the lawn, with the magnificent castle behind.
“Susan was great and happy. When she forgot the words to one song, she stopped, joked ‘Well, somebody didn't die.’ And started again.”
    • Trennie had a question: “When Susan messed up the lyrics of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, at the beginning, and directed the orchestra to start again. Was there an audience gasp? Was that why she said, somewhat wryly, ‘Nobody died!’? In which case, typical Susan.”
    • Kathleen 0787 replied: “No gasps Trennie. Susan just knew she wanted to start again after a sip of water. She was joking, taking it lightly and just starting again. ‘Nobody died’ was her way of saying that it was not a big deal and it wasn't to the audience either. Somewhere Over The Rainbow” – just fantastic!”

    6. Terijay7 commented: “The amazing one to me (so far-- thanks a million Nora) was "Impossible Dream"-- her breath control was amazing, and it never fails to impress me. You can never see her take a breath even on a difficult song like that one is (try sometime to sing it yourself) I was very impressed, particularly at the end. You can't hear her take a breath either! To me, a singer who has to gasp for air between phrases is an amateur.”

    7. MollBobbers posted the order of the songs at the Glamis performance which was verified by GeliWho and Sherry from Florida, 2 of the Susa-fans who attended the performance
    1. “All I Ask of You” (duet)
    2. “The Impossible Dream”
    3. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
    4. “I Dreamed A Dream”
    5. “Thank You for the Music” (with performance group)

    11. A review of Glamis Prom from Scottish Life + News, a magazine on Facebook:
“Review: #GlamisProm 2017 Held at historic Glamis Castle on a day when threatening weather happily lifted, 'Scotland's biggest picnic concert' sparkled like the bubbly so many were enjoying for this rare type of genuinely special occasion. #SusanBoyle was resplendent in pink and her voice in top form. #ChristinaBianco made new fans with her presence and multiple star impressions. #SoulNation started the event with their feelgood swing singing; The Ayoub Sisters played 'Summertime' with graceful clarity just as the sun came out. #LeeMead and Scotland's big-voiced winner #JaiMcDowell both delivered in style. The finalé of 'Thank You For The Music' by ABBA rounded off a wonderful show, one staged well. Much credit to the orchestra and producers. The traditional fireworks were missing but we hear they'll be back in August 2018 when The Glamis Prom is next staged. The whole experience is unrivalled in Scotland.
“Glamis Prom chose to drop the fireworks this year out of respect for the recent tragic events in the UK, but plans to have them back for the finale next year.”
